AuthorOh so beautiful dresses…
Today, I am dreaming of beautiful dresses. You know the ones. Ones you know you will probably never ever own or ever get to wear…only in your dreams. These two dresses, to me, conjour images in my head of softness, of floating, prettiness, femininity, elegance and oh so French. When I absorb these images I picture myself as a glamourous movie star, the likes of Grace Kelly. It is so nice to be able to float off to another world for a moment, even if only in your dreams. Happy dreaming… image: by Norman Parkinson via dustjacket attics I obtained … Continue Reading
Stunning tiered and piped wedding cake made under the expert tutelage of Faye Cahill at Faye Cahill Cake Design
For the longest time I had been looking forward to attending this class at Faye Cahill Cake Design. White, delicate, fine piping, pretty, flowers – yep, me to a tee. It is also lovely to meet like-minded people that have the same passion for cake decorating that I do, spending the entire day with them and discussing future projects, hopes and dreams. I enjoyed the day immensely, but it would be remiss of me not that send a huge, Huge, HUGE thankyou to both Faye and her effervescent assistant Viola for their expert and informative tutelage. The day began with a coffee of … Continue Reading
Lauren turns 21!
My middle daughter, Lauren, turned 21 years old this past weekend. Hold the ‘old’ jokes thanks. We celebrated with a big family birthday dinner. We also celebrated with a beautiful birthday cake from Heavenly Cakes at Curl Curl. For the longest time, when I do not have the time to make and decorate a cake myself, I have utilised the amazing services of Jayne Harrison at Heavenly Cakes. She always comes through with the perfect cake. Jayne’s decorating experience and talent are beyond brilliant. And she came through again for me this time. Lauren loves the beach and has a penchant for pink frangipanis … Continue Reading

Stewie gets new shoes.
When we took possession of Stewie his hooves were in a terrible state. Upon arrival at his new home we called in our trusty farrier, Jake, to give Stewie brand new shoes and to give advice to Dave on ways to keep Stewie’s hooves in the best possible condition. I, of course, was on hand to take a photographic journal of the process. Poor Jake, I think I drove him mad with all my questions. He was very obliging and didn’t hestitate once in answering my questions. I know, I can’t help myself. Far too curious? Or a need to … Continue Reading
Mango chicken.
Four words: Quick, easy, sweet and delicious. Just the way I like it. Great for a busy weekday meal. Give it a try. You will need a tin of mango cheeks in syrup. Yummm…. Some chilli flakes to give some heat. Make it as hot as you like – or not so hot. Two onions cut into wedges. Two chicken breasts, thinly sliced. Gently soften the onions in two tablespoons of vegetable oil. Remove from pan. Cook the chicken slices until golden and cooked through. I find cooking in batches works the best. Remove the mango cheeks from the … Continue Reading

‘Food Styling’ by Delores Custer – The Art of Preparing Food for the Camera
Food, to me, isn’t just all about the eating. That is, food is far more complex than just the taste! Food needs to arouse all our senses. The aroma of the food needs to be enticing. So enticing it will make us want to dive right in. Once we have tasted that very first mouthful, the texture and flavour of the food comes into play. Do you like the feel of the food in your mouth and on your tongue? Is it smooth and creamy or is it rough and scratchy on your tongue? And then there are your taste … Continue Reading
