Cobs Organic Popcorn

I do not endorse products, businesses or companies and I certainly do not receive any kickbacks, benefit or remuneration of any kind. If and when I write or blog about a product, it is because I truly like what that product has to offer. That certainly is the case for Cobs Organic Popcorn. I was first introduced to this mouth-watering moreish popcorn by my eldest lil’un son, who brought it home for all of us to try. We were instantly addicted. The Organic Range offers ‘Lightly Salted, Slightly Sweet’ popcorn using 100% organic ingredients. Cobs Fine Foods state “We use … Continue Reading

Sydney Royal Easter Show 2010 – On with the show – all manner of food PART II

As a continuation of the first part of this story, I am now moving into my favourite part of the Royal Easter Show – the baking and cooking competitions. Traditionally, the making of home-baked cakes, slices, cupcakes, scones, fruit cakes, preserves and iced cakes has been the source of fierce competition for any baking-minded individual. I love to browse the different categories, especially the magnificently iced cakes. Please enjoy the selection of photos that follow showcasing the fantastic talent. When I was a child of about 9 or 10 years of age, I used to attend cake decorating classes with my mother. I did … Continue Reading

On with the Show – all manner of food at the Sydney Royal Easter Show 2010 PART 1

The instant I step inside the gate my mind rewinds, like an old film reel, until my six year old self is standing there absorbing all the sights, sounds and smells that are the Sydney Royal Easter Show. A bellowing voice beckons me to place coloured balls into the turning clown’s mouth whilst the twinkling lights of the merry-go-round catch my eye. Children toting hairy stuffed toys and enjoying the sticky sweetness of enormous, multi-coloured lollipops exude pleasure. The pungent smell of farm animals mixed with the heady aroma of hot fried chips makes for an interesting mix. All in all, I feel giddy – … Continue Reading

Sweetest edible chicks – ever!

It just would not be Easter without me doing some sort of baking for the lil’uns to devour. I just could not resist these gorgeous little creatures. Be aware though, they are a little messy and fiddly to make but well worth the effort for their cute looks and scrumptuous taste. This recipe was sourced from recipe + Magazine April 2010.      Easter Chicks 125 grams of butter, at room temperature 3/4 cup caster sugar 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour 1/2 cup milk 2 eggs, at room temperature Butter cream (recipe follows) 1 1/2 cups shredded coconut Yellow liquid … Continue Reading

Good Friday Goodness!

1

Having married a Catholic and christened all the lil’uns Catholic we follow the Christian tradition of abstaining from meat on Good Friday. This probably isn’t a huge issue for some families, however, my little tribe are a little less fond of fish than they should be. Therefore, in the lead up to Good Friday each year I find myself scratching my head and wondering what I am going to serve for the evening meal that will be hearty and nutricious as well as filling. The following is what I did serve. It was delicious and the Parmesan crisps are to die … Continue Reading

Another idea for a beautiful table centrepiece is this easy to make chocolate and noodle nest filled with a bountiful quantity of delicious Easter eggs. This recipe originally came from the back of a Chang’s noodle packet for chocolate spiders and I have adapted it from spiders to nest. I make a large nest but you could also make smaller individual nests if you wish. Individual nests would make excellent place setting identifiers. Just make each little basket and fill with the required number of eggs. Print off a name tag and nestle it amongst the eggs. Perfect for an … Continue Reading

Bonny Easter Basket

We have a tradition in our family - every Easter Sunday we gather at the family’s beach house for an Easter celebration.  A big gathering of the Clan so to speak. It is my job, for this particular celebration, to organise the Easter Egg Hunt. I mean, what would Easter be without an egg hunt? After a huge Easter lunch my older children hide the eggs in the lawn of the large front yard whilst the parents try to keep the young nieces and nephews from peaking. Once all the eggs are hidden, I give every child a decorated brown paper … Continue Reading
